Mary Ann Majors Thomas passed away February 24, 2021, at Colonial Lodge in Terrell, Texas.  She was born, in Mt Vernon, Franklin Co. TX.   She was the first cesarean Birth in Franklin Co. Tx.  She descends from a pioneer family of Franklin Co. Tx.


Benjamin Franklin “Tobe” Majors; Mary Ann’s , grandfather came to the area in time to be on the 1870 census of Titus Co. TX.  Benjamin Franklin Majors donated the land for the first Methodist church in the area of the Majors community.  This area was first known as Hobson, then Shady Grove and then Majors.  It was known as Shady Grove when Benjamin Franklin Majors donated the land.  He donated much time and money to the building of this church. 


Benjamin Franklin Majors served Franklin Co. TX.  In several responsible positions.  He was Commissioner, Pct #3, 8 Nov.1898 and 6 Nov 1900.  He served as justice of the Peace during this time.  He was elected County Treasurer in Nov 1912 and Nov 1014.  He served as Postmaster of the Majors Post Office.


Mary Ann first worked for Mildred Smith at the telephone Co. in Mt.Vernon, the Rutherford Drug Store, next  the Old Franklin Co. Hospital; soon after it was built.


She married Rex Vernon Thomas August 17, 1951, in Mt. Vernon, Tx.  There were no children born to this union, But they had many close and dear friends.  She was 60 year member of the  Eastern Star, an avid genealogist, avid reader, and enjoyed cooking.    She did  volunteer work with her church as long as her health would   permit.  She has been a member of the Poetry Baptist church for 22 years  and active WMU.  Her last years were at Colonial Lodge, assisted living, in Terrell, TX.


She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rex, her parents; William Henry “Bill” and Opal Inman Majors, and one Infant sister.


She is survived by a brother, W H Majors and wife Gloria; two nieces, Michelle Lee Majors Janota,  and Renee Lee Majors, along with their 6 children.


Mary Ann Thomas was buried at Seymore Cemetery south of Sulphur Springs, Tx.  Due to current conditions at this time and family health there was no services at this time.
