Ruth Childers

Ruth Childers, 79, of Terrell, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving and much loved family. Ruth Opal Childers was born on December 29, 1935 to Amon and Mamie Bushnell in Dallas County Texas. She met and married Elmar McBride - the love of her life. Ruth was an amazing woman. She worked for over twenty years as a supervisor at UTL making electronics for airplanes. She was a lifetime member of the First Assembly Church in Terrell. Widowed at 32, she raised her six children by herself. Ruth worked hard and loved big. She never met a stranger. Her compassionate spirit, infectious smile were know by all who met her. She loved people and spending time with friends and family. But her greatest joy was her family; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will truly be missed by all who loved her. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Amon and Mamie Bushnell; husband, Elmar McBride; son, Wayne Luker; sister, Ann Huffman; brothers, John Bushnell, Claude, Carl Bushnell and Clyde Bushnell. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jimmy Luker, Donald Luker (Nancy); daughters, Ruthie Neighbors, Beverly Carpenter (Roabie), Peggy High; seventeen grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Bill Bushnell (Rachel), Sam Bushnell (Von), PeeWee Bushnell (Shirley), Joe Bushnell (Kathy); sisters, Marie Slaughter, Betty Gibson (Danny), Martha Prater (Gary), Ada Garcia (Daniel); three generations of nieces and nephews, extended family friends and neighbors. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. The interment will immediately follow the service at Campground Cemetery in Poetry.
