June Belle Wheeler, a distinguished sales professional and dedicated community volunteer, passed away on May 24, 2026, in Rockwall, Texas, at the age of 98. Born on June 10, 1927, in Mayfield, Oklahoma, June’s life spanned a remarkable era in history, encompassing the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, the Space Race, and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Mrs. Wheeler pursued her education with determination, attending some college in Sayre, Oklahoma. Her career was marked by notable achievements within United American, where she earned numerous sales awards. She took great pride in her abilities as a top sales performer in insurance. June was equally devoted to her charitable endeavors. She volunteered extensively at the American Legion and VFW, where she was recognized as a top earner for fundraisers and gained distinction for selling the most poppy wreaths in the State of Oklahoma.
June’s life was rich with varied experiences and interests. She spent several years living in Saudi Arabia from 1972 to 1977, a period during which she developed her passion for painting. This creative outlet complemented her lifelong hobbies of sewing, cooking, and gardening, through which she expressed her warm and nurturing nature. June was outgoing by temperament, always ready with a compelling story about her life, family, or distant memories, recalling every detail with precision and zest for life.
Her family recalls June as a loving and attentive matriarch. She was preceded in death by her father William Clarence Gee, mother Cora Bell Gee, brothers James Gee and Clarence Gee, three husbands, and cherished children Mike Hurt, Destiny Nicole Garza, and Kimberly Hurt. Those who survive to carry forward her legacy include her son Dallas Hurt; daughter Patricia Schappaugh; son Rickey Scott and his wife Velma; daughter Jill Dewbre; grandsons André Garza, Christopher Hurt, Philip Garcia; granddaughters Angela Kahan and her husband Brandon, Pamela Hurt, Amanda Garza and her fiancé Matt, Alexandra Garza, and Kimberly Caffrey; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.
June’s extraordinary life, marked by personal resilience, professional achievement, and heartfelt service to her community, leaves an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her vibrant stories and cherished memories will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come. Her passing is mourned deeply, but her spirit of determination and giving will be remembered with admiration and respect.
