James Howard Hoffpauir

James “Jim” Howard Hoffpauir, 85, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in Kemp, Texas.   A celebration of life will take place at “high noon” on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Liberty Baptist Church, 141 Manning Street, Gun Barrel City, Texas. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., one hour prior to the memorial.

James was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 7, 1938. He was always proud of his Cajun roots and being from Indian Bayou, Louisiana. As a child, James proclaimed that his dream was to be a “cowboy.” After serving time in the Navy, he moved to Texas where he began raising horses. This dream was further fulfilled when he became a co-host on the Dallas-based syndicated television program “Crossroads LIve!” where he would interview local and national celebrities. James went on to co-star in a handful of independent films and western productions, and he furthered his talent by working in editing, script writing and production. He enjoyed riding his two favorite horses, Danny Boy and Becca, who were also in some of his films. He loved Texas cowboy culture! The Fort Worth Stock and Rodeo was an event he attended regularly as well as the Billy the Kid Old West Festival in Hico. He was a long-time member of the Gene Autry Fan Club in Dallas and was a big fan of Western Swing music.

His battle with serious medical issues in recent months showed his courage in facing his greatest challenge. When questioned how he would deal with his grim prognosis, James replied in his typical cowboy way, “I’m going to have to man up.” James maintained his good humor and stayed strong until the end.

His requested final resting place will be next to the grave of his mother, Rosemond Hoffpauir, at Ebenezer Cemetery, Acadia Parish, Louisiana.
