Glenn McDaniel

Glenn Howard McDaniel, born January 4, 1930, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Friday, April 29, 2011. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and is now finally free from pain. He was born in Ed Couch on January 4, 1930, the son of Otis and Valerie (Bollier) McDaniel. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mariam McDaniel, brother Melvin McDaniel, sisters Eugenia Brodton and Patricia Smith, and grandson Andrew Cheek. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Mary McDaniel, sister Dorthy Baird, sister Betty Lancaster and sister and brother-in-law Peggy and Gary Walker. Son and daughter-in-law, Wagner and Kenna McDaniel, daughter and son-in-law, Georgia and Mike Cheek, and daughter Holly McDaniel. Glenn is also survived by his grandchildren Shawn McDaniel, Malissa Parrish, James McDaniel, Katie and Daniel Boyd, Kelsey Holt, Kelsie Blackmon, Tony and Wendy Cheek, Niki Cheek, Jennifer Cheek, Seth Cheek, and Stephanie Hayes. He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, numerous friends and supporters--including Douglas Dominquez and Justin Lopez, who were a great help to him in his last days. Glenn led a full life of service to his country and to his many friends. He fought in the Korean War as part of the United States Navy. He worked as a private investigator for more than 20 years, a salesman for The Reliable Life Insurance Company, an owner of a small ceramic business, and a manager at Texas Lamp Manufacturer in Forney, Texas. Glenn was very active in local and national politics throughout his life and his favorite pastimes included playing golf with his friends and watching the Texas Rangers play baseball. Services will be held May 7 at 1:00 p.m. at College Mound United Methodist Church under the direction of Goggans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in the memory of Glenn and Mariam McDaniel.
