Gerald Hennig, a beloved figure known for his quiet strength and unwavering integrity, passed away on February 11, 2026, in Quitman, Texas, at the age of 79. Born on June 27, 1946, in Wausau, Wisconsin, Gerald’s early years were spent on a dairy farm where he learned the values of hard work and dedication while tending to cows and assisting his grandparents.
Gerald’s educational journey led him through Athens High School in Wisconsin, culminating in a college degree from the University of Wisconsin. Following his education, he proudly served his country after being drafted in 1966, demonstrating a profound sense of civic duty by choosing to serve rather than seeking a deferment.
For many years, Gerald dedicated his professional life as a lab technician at Doctor's Hospital in Mesquite, Texas. It was in this role that he displayed the intelligence, loyalty, and honesty that defined his character, earning him the respect and affection of his colleagues and patients alike.
Outside of work, Gerald had a passion for gardening and took great joy in nurturing plants and spending time with his animals, including numerous pets over the years. He was a man of deep faith, embodying a steadfast love for God, family, and friends. His personality resonated with those around him; he was a quiet man whose gentle demeanor and generous heart made him a cherished presence in the lives of many.
Gerald is survived by his loving children: Joel Hennig and Molly Condit, as well as his son-in-law, Robert Davidson. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather to twenty-one great-grandchildren. His legacy will continue to live on through them.
Gerald was married to Mary Therese Bonfiglin, and later to Sharon Gail Elliott, who predeceased him. He now joins his late wife, along with his parents George Hennig and Adeline Scheer, and his stepfather, Louis Scheer, in eternal rest.
As we remember Gerald, we celebrate a life marked by kindness, loyalty, and steadfast faith—qualities that will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
