David James Collins

David James Collins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and brother, passed away on February 13, 2026, at the Watkins Logan Garrison State Veterans Home in Tyler, Texas. Born on July 10, 1946, in Huntsville, Arkansas, Dave lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and unwavering love for his family.

A proud Vietnam Veteran, Dave served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968, an experience that instilled in him a sense of loyalty and a commitment to service that he carried throughout his life. Following his military career, he spent an impressive 45 years as a Master Plumber and Gas Fitter, also holding a Med Gas License. His hardworking nature and tireless spirit were evident in his work, making significant contributions to his community.

Those who knew Dave would agree that he was a man of many talents and interests. He found solace and joy in breaking and riding horses, hunting and camping. He had a passion for building things, grilling delicious meals for his loved ones, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life, like watching westerns and Wheel of Fortune. Above all, he cherished family vacations and camping trips, moments that created everlasting memories filled with love and laughter.

Dave's generous heart was reflected in his willingness to help those in need, and he was especially proud of the care he provided to many children, both his own and those who needed a helping hand. He imparted invaluable life lessons and was a figure of strength and protection for his family. His unwavering support and guidance were instrumental as he raised his beloved children, Kristofer Lindstrom, Leslie Osteen, Keith Lindstrom and his wife, Karen, Carrie Rhueff and her husband, Codey, Terrie Hendon and her husband, Charlie, Will Collins and his wife, Paloma, and Karri List and her husband David.

Daves' legacy thrives through his treasured grandchildren: Ryan, Megan Ann, Robyn, Cassie, Megan and husband Codey, Mikaela, Andrew, Chloe, Tyler, and Leo, as well as his great-grandchildren, Logan and fiancé Jane, Morgan, Zoey, Osiris, Bryce, Harper, and his great-great grandchild, Adlee. His pride in his family was paramount, and it was evident that they were the greatest joys of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janie Collins, and his sisters, Stevette Rehberg, Sherry Baker and husband Gene, Judy Collins and husband Gene, Joyce Douglas, Carol Smith and brother, Harvey Stephens.

He rejoins in eternal rest his father, Frank David Collins; his mother, Charleen Marie Collins; stepmother, Isabel Collins; brothers Darrell Collins; and sister Joyce Rose; as well as sisters Sharon Kay Boheman and Carolyn Belton; and his son Kristofer Lindstrom and daughter Leslie Osteen.

Dave will be remembered as a hardworking, trustworthy, and loyal individual whose fun-loving spirit never failed to bring joy to those around him. As the family gathers to honor his memory, they celebrate every lesson learned, every adventure shared, and the profound impact he had on their lives. His spirit will forever remain in their hearts, guiding them just as he always did.
