Barbara Elizabeth Nix, a beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on January 23, 1945, Barbara dedicated her life to her family and a remarkable career that spanned over 35 years at Solar Turbines in San Diego, California.

Barbara was born in Mahopac, Putnam County, New York to Barney Dileone and Cecelia (Cofrancesco.)

She excelled in her career goals in White Plains, New York, where she pursued her education, completing business school before earning her associate’s degree from Berkeley. Her professional journey was both impressive and inspiring, culminating in a successful retirement that she earned through her unwavering commitment and hard work.

As a devoted mother, Barbara moved her family from New York to San Diego, providing them with opportunities to thrive in a different environment. Her pride in her children and grandchildren was evident; she always ensured they were well cared for and inspired them with her dedication.

Barbara was known for her kindness, loyalty, and strength. Those fortunate enough to know her experienced her loving nature and the quiet strength she embodied, a presence upon which many leaned. Her independent spirit, combined with an unwavering commitment to health, painted the picture of a woman who embraced life with passion.

She cherished family vacations, loved celebrating Christmas and Thanksgiving with her loved ones, and will be remembered for her favorite pastime of blasting 70’s music while cleaning her home. Barbara maintained a variety of interests, including walking, working out, caring for her plants, engaging in activities with friends, reading, watching movies, and traveling to explore new horizons.

Barbara leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Lauri Thomas, and her spouse, Brett; her son, Terry Nix; sister, Joan Caulway; her grandsons, Caleb Thomas and Josh Thomas, along with his spouse, Molly; and her niece, Cari Caulway, and nephew, Jeff Caulway, and his spouse, Kim. 

As we remember Barbara, we celebrate a life filled with love, dedication, and remarkable achievements. Her legacy continues through her family, who carry her spirit forward in their lives. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
