Allie Harvey

May 14, 1920 — February 17, 2010

Allie Marie Kilgore Harvey of Terrell passed away peacefully on February 17, 2010 at the age of 89. Marie as she was known to everyone was born on May 14, 1920 in the Stubbs community of Kaufman County to Birdie Elizabeth (Nevill) Kilgore and Jonathan David (JD) Kilgore, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married to Horace Clifford Harvey on October 31, 1936 and enjoyed a long wonderful marriage until his death in August of 1992. Together they loved and raised three girls, Betty Ruth Harvey Dickerson, Suzanne Harvey Morgan and Kathy Harvey Wilhite. Betty also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Kilgore, J.D. Kilgore and Pony Kilgore and three sisters, Emma Kilgore, Maude Kilgore McCall and Cissy Kilgore Posey and a nephew who was raised as a brother, Thurman McCall. She and Clifford moved to Terrell in the early 40s where she worked as a nurse for Dr. Gough Alexander and Dr. Louis Conradt at Alexander Hospital for many years. She was a devoted care giver until her own ill health forced her retirement. Even then she continued to care for all those she loved, nursing her children and grandchildren when anyone needed her. She loved dancing, watching the Grand Ole Opry and playing dominoes on Saturday night with wrestling on tv in the background. As a girl she loved to play basketball in school and loved to watch it on tv in her later years. She loved her family and cherished the family get togethers at her home, especially during the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holidays. She loved to have all the kids and grandkids scattered all over the living room with their presents and watching the Easter Egg hunts in the yard. One thing she especially loved was the Family football games when the grandkids were teens. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church and had a strong Christian based faith and lived that faith daily, praying continually for her family and all those she loved. She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Morgan and husband Howell, Kathy Wilhite and husband David, and son-in-law, Walter Dickerson; eight grandchildren, Mark Dickerson and wife Shannon, Julie Wages and husband Joey, Anna Shafer and husband Ty, Lori Crick and husband Mike, Mike Leighton and wife Becca, Chris Leighton, Elizabeth Wilhite and Christopher Wilhite; seventeen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends who will all miss her greatly. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Laeuna Howell of Dallas, Jo Sullivan of Kaufman and Bertie Harvey of Terrell and care giver Sue Hanby. A celebration of her life and entrance into Heaven will be held at Goggans Funeral Home on Saturday February 20, 2010 at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Her burial will follow the service in Scurry Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
